Green Tips
- Thermostat down 2 degrees in winter, up 2 degrees in summer, off when possible
- Insulate your home walls and attic
- Insulating blanket for your water heater tank
- Insulate your hot water pipes
- Insulate electric outlets and switch plates on outside walls
- Insulate window mounted and wall mounted air conditioners
- When replacing windows, replace with double or triple pane windows
- Full dishwasher, wash on hot, rinse in warm water, open and let air dry or energy saver dry
- Turn off unused lights
- Turn off or unplug unused equipment, even including cell phone chargers
- Replace an old fridge with a high efficiency model
- Do you really need that second fridge in the basement running 24/7?
- Use window shades to let sunshine in in winter, keep out in summer
- Switch to LED bulbs and LED tube fluorescent replacements and/or CFIs
- Power strips
- A tankless water heater saves huge amount of energy
- Take shorter showers
- Recycle as much home waste as possible
- Use refillable water bottles
- Lower your water heater temperature
- Consider a timer for your electric water heater
- Computer monitor off if not to be used for 20 minutes or more
- Computer CPU off if not to be used for two hours or more
- Computer printer off if not to be used for one hour or more
- Make sure doors to outside have weatherstripping
- Use a programmable thermostat
- Low flow shower head
- Drive less- do multiple errands in one trip
- Keep tires properly inflated
